The church needs to go to "church"!
Hebrews 10:24-25 (KJV) - And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Yesterday I went to "church" and I was so happy I did. I know that we, the Body of Christ are the real church and what we call "church" is just a gathering of the church in one building. Nonetheless, it's important for the church to go to a local "church".
Since I started blogging on this website I have been exposed to a modern form of Christianity that is very popular among my generation. It seems as though some of us have gotten so smart that we think we don't need a local "church".
The main argument I have heard is that Jesus preached all over the place and never limited himself to a local "church" so why should we? As a result, we should be free to go wherever we please as long as we're worshipping God in our private time and we're building ourselves up in the Word of God.
Well, that's a good argument and as a result, many young Christians are not a part of a local "church" body. It seems as though they never read past the book of John in the New Testament because from the Book of Acts it's all about the local "church".
I like "church" because it gives me an opportunity to spend time with other Christians in an environment tailored for our needs. It's the one place on this earth other than our homes that is not controlled by the world. We are free to express ourselves without any consideration for skeptical non-Christians.
We have the rest of the week to fight the good fight but when we go to church it's our time to rest and recharge. When I'm struggling to maintain my focus, I know that once I step into the presence of God along with other believers, I'll be ok. I don't need to be everyone's friend and I don't need people to be in my "business". I just need to be in the same place with other Christians worshipping God and listening to the Word of God as a corporate body.
Proverbs 27:17(KJV) - Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
As an athlete, I understand the importance of a good coach and a good team to train with. If I am surrounded by other top athletes I am encouraged to "step my game up" and that helps with my growth. I'm sure I can train by myself and get something done but I'll never reach my full potential without the encouragement and support of fellow athletes. They challenge me to be better. They can see things that I cannot see unless I train in an empty room surrounded by mirrors or I see myself on a videotape.
I know that God is more than enough but He placed us on this populated earth for us to interact with other humans. As a result, we need to find the group that we've been assigned to. God will show each of us our place in the Body of Christ if we ask Him. Do you know where you're supposed to be? If you don't then you need to find out and get there. As a Christian I know you're the church but you still need to go to "church"! God bless you!
1 Corinthians 12:12(KJV) - For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. |
